NATTAYA'S LIFE-CHANGING EMPLOYMENT

Nattaya’s life unraveled slowly, then all at once.
As a young mother with two children, she worked hard as a seamstress to pay for their needs. Her troubles began when her boyfriend started having an affair with another woman. After becoming physically abusive to Nattaya, he left her alone as a single parent. Then, she lost her job as a seamstress. She felt desperate and didn't know what to do.
A neighbor told her about an opportunity in one of Bangkok’s red light areas that promised a good salary. At first, she resisted — Nattaya knew exactly what kind of work the red light district had to offer. But as she thought about her children and the need for quick money, she felt she had no other choice.
For a year, Nattaya worked in a go-go bar. She struggled to earn enough and endured constant criticism about her appearance. “You don’t get customers because you’re fat and ugly,” the other women told her. Day after day, her sense of worth eroded.
Then one day, she heard about a place where she could find a different kind of work. After being referred by women already in our program, she walked the streets until she found NightLight.
She was hired quickly and began learning new skills, working with her hands again—creating, beading, producing something meaningful. But it wasn’t long before something deeper began to take root. Other women encouraged her to speak with our staff team, and for the first time in a long time, Nattaya had space to begin processing the pain she carried.
Nattaya worked with NightLight for several years, and eventually married a man she fell in love with. Our staff celebrated many milestones alongside her family, including when she announced that she was pregnant and expecting a baby boy.
Not long after the birth of her son, her husband became addicted to drugs. His behavior was unpredictable and often violent, leaving Nattaya and her new child in a constant state of fear. Even as she worked at NightLight, she carried the weight of protecting her son and navigating a future that felt uncertain. Eventually, his addiction led to prison, and Nattaya continued forward as a single mother.
Through it all, she stayed at NightLight.
Day by day, through steady work, consistent community, and relationships built over time, Nattaya’s life held steady. Unlike before when everything unraveled, with the support of NightLight and stable employment, Nattaya navigated this hard season well and came out better on the other side of it. She grew in confidence and skill, becoming an excellent artisan. She found support not just for her practical needs, but for her heart, through counseling, community, and spiritual encouragement.
Today, her son is 14 years old. He is growing into a young man shaped by a very different environment than the one Nattaya once feared for him. He has found faith, was baptized at a recent retreat, and now plays drums during chapel services when he is home from school.
And Nattaya? She designs many of the ornaments that NightLight produces. She often shares that her desire now is simple: to go deeper, to continue growing, healing, and worshiping God with her life.
Nattaya’s story didn’t change overnight. It changed over time through meaningful work, faithful relationships, and a community that walked with her through every layer of her journey.
Through NightLight’s freedom business, women like Nattaya don’t just find a job. They find the space, support, and stability needed for lasting transformation, not only for them but for the next generation. But creating and sustaining this kind of environment takes more than product sales alone. It takes a community of people who believe that healing, dignity, and spiritual restoration are worth investing in. It takes a community passionate about creating spaces where women who feel trapped or unseen can encounter this life-changing restoration and grow to multiply it.
